Travel First Aid Kit for Kids
Traveling with kids can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it also comes with a unique set of challenges. One of the most important things to consider when planning a trip with children is first aid preparedness. Accidents and illnesses can happen at any time, and having the right first aid travel essentials on hand can make all the difference in ensuring a safe and enjoyable trip for everyone involved. We try to pack minimally but this is one area where I like to be prepared. These items are less important to keep on hand if you’re visiting a location where they are readily available. If you’re traveling somewhere remote, these are some essential first aid items to pack for your next family adventure.

Adhesive bandages
Kids are prone to bumps, scrapes, and cuts, so packing a variety of adhesive bandages in different sizes is a must. These are our absolute favorites because they don’t come off after 2 minutes. But sometimes you just need a fun bandage, for those serious wounds. Parents, you know!
Pain relievers
A fever or headache can quickly ruin a trip, so it's a good idea to pack some pain relievers such as children's acetaminophen or ibuprofen. (Be sure to follow the recommended dosages based on your child's age and weight.) I highly recommend the chewables for travel if your kiddos are old enough.
Digital thermometer
A digital thermometer is an essential tool to have on hand, especially when traveling with young children. Fevers can be a sign of illness, and a thermometer can help you quickly identify if your child needs medical attention. I often take our favorite thermometer along even though it’s a little bigger. If I’m short on space, I’ll grab this one.
Sunscreen
Protecting your child's skin from the sun's harmful rays is important, even on cloudy days. Choose a sunscreen with a high SPF and apply it regularly, especially when spending time outdoors. We love thinksport kids or thinkbaby! Don’t forget your Solar Buddies applicator that ends messy sunscreen hands! My kids complain less when I use this!
Insect repellent
If you're traveling to an area with mosquitoes or other insects, be sure to pack insect repellent. Look for a repellent that is safe for children and apply it before heading outdoors. Ultrathon is our first choice. Don’t forget to take along the Bug Bit Thing Suction tool to help with any bites that do occur. I also pack some hydrocortisone cream for trips just in case!
Anti-nausea medication
Motion sickness can be a common problem for kids while traveling, especially on long car rides. Puke can ruin a trip real fast! If your child is prone to motion sicks, Children’s dramamine is our first choice. (Be sure to follow the recommended dosages.)
Allergy medication
If your child has allergies, be sure to pack any necessary medication, such as antihistamines or epinephrine auto-injectors. It's also a good idea to carry a copy of their allergy action plan in case of an emergency. We always take along children’s Claritin Chewables. (Be sure to follow the recommended dosages based on your child's age.)
Traveling with kids can be an amazing experience, but it's important to be prepared for any unexpected accidents or illnesses. By packing these first aid travel essentials, you'll be equipped to handle a variety of situations and ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for everyone involved. I have a small bag with some of these items for day trips as well. Safe travels!
